Campaign for Hope Launched!

May 27, 2015 by Justin Feltman

Samaritan Inns is proud to announce the Campaign for Hope!

This campaign will enable us to reach more men and women in need; and for the first time: the critically underserved popSamaritan's Inn 3 264ulation of addicted mothers and their children. Renovations continue at the Harvard Street Inn, where the unprecedented Women with Dependent Children program will help break the cycle of addiction by providing a multitude of services to both mothers and their children.

The Campaign for Hope will also allow Samaritan Inns to expand it’s transition programs, serving an additional 50 men and 30 women per year with specialized counseling and support services; and will strengthen the infrastructure that supports Samaritan Inns’ eight residential properties.

For thousands of addicted men and women in the District of Columbia, hope began at Samaritan Inns. Their lives were transformed by the effective treatment programs administered by our expert staff. Their lives were transformed by having a safe home and a stable community to support their recovery. And their lives were transformed by the will and grace of God.

But with more than 10,000 homless and tens of thousands at risk of being homeless in our region, and a rate of drug and alcohol abuse over 11%; our work is far from over. Please visit our Campaign for Hope website for the latest developments and how you can help as we continue to move toward breaking the cycle of addiction in our community.

A Home Where Lives are Restored

May 27, 2015 by Justin Feltman

The Affordable Housing Communities at Samaritan Inns provide a safe haven for residents to reinforce their recovery while living in apartment-style Lazarus Househousing. But the third phase of Samaritan Inns recovery program, is so much more than just an affordable place to live in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of DC.

“There’s a strong educational component,” says Jesse Washington, Director of the program. “Assessment of each resident takes place, advice is given, and then we empower them to get the training and skills they need to take that next step.”

Residents in the program participate in on-going addictions counseling and social services, share living and dining space in a drug and alcohol free environment, and continue to create a community of support and accountability.

More than just a home, residents in the Affordable Housing Communities hold their peers accountable and support each other on the path to recovery.

Copy of jesse“Most of them have never been in this kind of living situation before,” says Jesse. “It teaches patience. It helps their self-esteem, and they leave with a huge sense of accomplishment and progress.”

Additionally, every resident in each eight-person suite serves one term as a suite leader for three months. “Being a suite leader is a responsibility,” says Jesse. “You have to pay attention, address issues, and get stuff done. It’s hard work, but very rewarding when they get to the other side.”

The men and women who graduate from the program leave with the confidence and tool set to sustain long-term sobriety and build a foundation for independent living. With their lives restored, they join our community and contribute to making it more than just a home.

Deloitte Impact Day

July 8, 2014 by Justin Feltman

DSC_0580June 7th was the day set by Deloitte to partake in their yearly IMPACT DAY 2014, and Samaritan Inns was more than happy to be participating again. Typically Deloitte comes to Samaritan Inns to provide a day of financial and career mentorship for our residents, which in turns gives them the tools to face the world ahead.

This year Deloitte came to us to embark on a different kind of service project.Deloitte This year they came to tackle a beautification project at our Mozart Inn locations. A group of energetic and enthusiastic workers dressed in blue came to Elisha’s Houseready to tackle this day of service! After an impactful morning program they walked over to begin work at the Inns. The day was filled with landscaping, painting and camaraderie among the staff here at Samaritan inns and Deloitte. It was truly and a great day of service and was well received by the residents who occupied that property. On behalf of the staff  and residents of Samaritan Inns, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Deloitte and cannot wait for next year’s IMPACT DAY!
